February: National Heart Month

Did you know the number one killer of BOTH women and men is heart disease?

One of the easiest ways to mitigate your risk? Watching what you eat. That includes protein.

Many of the trendiest diets today, including paleo and keto, are high protein. Protein is important for almost every bodily function there is, but too much can be detrimental to your health, particularly your heart health.

According to one study, men who consumed a high-protein diet increased their risk of developing heart failure by 33 percent.

So, what’s one to do?

The Mediterranean diet comes to the rescue. It emphasizes lean sources of protein, including fish, beans, nuts, and seeds. Red meat is not off-limits but simply enjoyed less often.

All February, we’re protecting your heart with our Mediterranean based burgers. Our burgers feature portion-controlled lean proteins- including salmon- so you’re not going overboard on the protein and they’re made with plenty of veggies and even the occasional fruit.

Come on down to the Connections Cafe and explore what a moderate protein, higher nutrient burger can do for your heart - and your stomach!
